Released way back in 2012, Student of the year part 1, introduced 3 newbies in the tinsel town and the torch bearer of this college flick Karan Johar has attempted a sequel with batch of new admissions wherein the two girls are making their debut Ananya Pandey daughter of Chunkey Pandey and Tara Sutaria. After the tremendous success of Baaghi 2, Tiger Shroff was roped in by the makers. Considering Tiger’s speciality in dance, action and acrobats the makers have weaved this love triangle with its moment of collegegiri, emotions and the sports especially kabaddi.
The setup is somewhat similar to Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar but is packaged in new form to cater to youth audience of current times. The story revolves around who wins the Dignity Cup hosted by St. Teresa and the 29th Student of the year award. Though the film has been bashed for its make and believe college drama that is far from reality but then you have Avengers which also falls in the same category. I wont say its a great film but then how many college stories do bollywood churn out in recent times is more than enough to give it a dekko. Music by Vishal Shekhar is a major letdown if you compare with the first part. You will enjoy the songs when they are played but those wont be in your downloads list. The choreography is of top notch. Aditya Seal has played his villainous part very well. Both the girls have made a confident debut but I feel Ananya got a meatier part and she has nailed it. Tiger has proved his mettle as the last action hero and in this flick he has played the role of vulnerable student with quiet ease. All in all, the production values, new actors, a holiday season coupled with IPL finals now over, can bring the youth audience to cinemas thus becoming a profitable venture for all involved in the project after the monumental debacle of Karan Johar’s last outing Kalank.
